What does Germany’s general election mean for healthcare and public health?

Germany goes to the polls to elect a new government on 23 February 2025. The outlook for the future development of healthcare in Germany may vary depending on the outcome of the vote. This Munich Public Health Forum event will discuss the position of the party from which the new chancellor is likely to come and how compatible it is with the positions of potential junior partners.

Specifically, the following questions will be addressed:

  • What does the election mean for public health in Germany?
  • What preventive strategies are emerging? Will there be a return to the Bundesinstitut für Öffentliche Gesundheit (Federal Institute of Public Health)?
  • What do the financing conditions look like? Will there be less welfare state and more individual responsibility?
  • What will happen if the pathways along which the traffic-light coalition has set out are disrupted?

Brief contributions will be made by Maike Voss, Professor Manfred Wildner, Dr. Peter von Philipsborn and Dr. Joseph Kuhn. Professor Ulrich Mansmann will then moderate a panel debate.

This event has been organized in collaboration with the Pettenkofer School of Public Health.

Participants are kindly requested to register in advance. For more information, please visit the event website.
